Over the last month or so, I have posted a few times about rapes that have happen in several Baton rouge schools. Now we have to worry about guns making it into our public schools. Today, a 13-year-old student at Southeast Middle School on Harrells Ferry Rd. was arrested for bringing a military style Ruger mini 14 assault rifle to the school.

The student apparently had hidden the gun in a large duffel bag and then hid it in the boy's locker room. According to witnesses, the boy had brought the gun because of an altercation with two other students last week. Deputies have said that earlier in the week, another student heard the accused student say that he had a weapon and alerted a school official.
I would like to know how a 13-year-old was able to get possession of a gun like this. Not only that, but what are his parents teaching him at home? Seems to be that a lot of these types of incidents could be prevented if the parents were more involved with their children's lives. Do we really need another Columbine before we wake up and get involved with our children's lives?
