For the first time in American Idol history, three different contestants have signed with 19 Entertainment.
Each season, the winner of the show gets a deal with 19 Entertainment - the company of Simon Fuller and Simon Cowell. Back in Season 2, both Reuben Studdard and runner-up Clay Aiken signed with the company. After a close vote in the finale, the company wanted to see how the two singers would compare with each other when their first single and records were released. Although he didn't win Idol, Clay dominated in both categories and went on to have Billboard's #1 single of the year with This Is The Night.
It was announced last week that Kris Allen had signed a record deal with 19 Entertainment and will release on Jive Records. It was later announced that runner-up Adam Lambert had also signed with 19 Entertainment but will release on RCA records. Today it was announced that 4th place finisher (and last female eliminated) Allison Iraheta will join the two boys at 19 Entertainment and like Kris, her album will be released on the Jive label.
Idol producer Simon Fuller said, "we can only imagine how far this special girl can continue to blossom in the years ahead."
RCA/Jive Label Group chairman and CEO Barry Weiss added, "Her bluesy, powerful voice, spunky attitude, and edgy star power immediately captivated us and it didn't matter where she ranked on Idol, we knew we wanted her to join our amazing crop of young talent at Jive."
All three albums are scheduled to release sometime this fall. Like with season 2, it will be interesting to see which singer fares the best. This is the first time that three contestants from one season have signed on with 19 Entertainment.
Who do y'all think will have the best debut?
