Well, by now I'm sure everyone has heard about the passing of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. To be honest, I didn't real care when I heard. Yes, it is sad when people die. Not having been a fan of either, I'm just not mourning them.

And that was before I got the news today from my parents.

My grandmother, who was my best friend in the world, passed away at 1:30am. Fortunately, I got the opportunity to spend a week in December with her as a way of doing our good-byes. I talked to her several times a weeks and although I hated that she worried about me, I was glad she did.

At times, I felt guilty for living so far away but I knew that no matter where I was, she loved me more than anyone else in my family. I am just glad that I had the special relationship with her that I did and I hope everyone could have at least one special relationship like we had. It would be nice to make it to NY for the funeral but unless there is a miracle, I won't be going. Damn airlines and holiday weekend price gouging!

I wish y'all had known her. She was thoughtful and caring. She always had a kind word for people and always made people feel warm inside. Her beauty went much deeper than just her pretty face. I know most people think their grandparents are special, but I had another grandmother who never tried to have a relationship with us. My Meme was truly special.

My fondest memories of my grandmother are of the weekends I would stay at their house and I got to plan the "menu" for the weekend. Of course, I was like 8 and I would always pick the same things! I would also spend a week or two there in the summer ... even though they lived just 5-10 minutes from our house. No matter what was going on at home, I could always go there and feel safe.

I'd mentally prepared for her to go ... and she was ready to go ... but it still hurts. Thanks for listening to me ramble ... it helps.

I feel like I knew MeMe just from you talking about her. I still have the Slytherin witch she made me, and I'll cherish it always.

She's with God now, smiling down from heaven

Very sorry for your loss... hang in there... (I know, the typical sayings, but it holds true)

I am so sorry for your loss David. You do know about the 1/2 price funeral fare that most (if not all) airlines offer, don't you?

((hugs)) I'm glad you have a special relationship with her.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. . .but so very happy that you had such a wonderful person in your life.

The time you spent with your Grandmother will be what you remember most, talk about her a lot and she'll be with you always. Losing her hurts and no amount of preparation can change that but remembering her heals with a power no one can deny. I'm sending you hugz for the pain, and smiles for the memories.

I am really sorry for your loss Dave ... I am thinking of you!

So sorry to hear about your loss. I'm glad to hear that you got to spend some uality time with her recently and you'll ALWAYS have those great memories to hold onto.

Thanks everyone. My cousin's husband made a slideshow on his laptop and I will be getting a copy. I can't wait to post it for y'all to see :)
